Window Film Depot - Window tinting business

I contracted with these folks April 2022 to install window film on four large double pane windows to deal with sun issues. I picked WindowFilmDepot (WFD) because of what I read online about the company, and that they are the largest installer of 3M window film and a family-owned business. The sales person told during the sales process "The 3M Prestige Series has a lifetime 3M Residential Warranty". No other details about any warranty or insurance information were shared during the sales process. On the day of the installation the installer told me he would need to be done by 4 pm as he had a hockey game back in Mass. It was not a one person job. I ended up getting involved in the installation (~3.5 hours of my time). One window failed immediately. The window manufacturer told me the window could of failed because of the installation process. (WFD told me not long after the installation, the installer was no longer working for the company. ) As I was told during the sales process there was a lifetime warranty, I assumed WFD would cover the cost to replace but turns out the insurance maximum was only $500 per window. WFD did increase my insurance coverage to $1500 once the window failed but the cost to buy and replace the window was $4700 dollars. After the failure WFD admitted the window could fail because of installing film on double pain windows, something that was not mentioned in the sales process. Also I was never made aware that applying window film on panels with low-E coating can be an issue nor did the company determine what panel my coating was on prior to installation. Also most window manufacturers void your window warranty if you install film. If the company had been clearer about the potential for the window(s) to fail and the insurance, I likely would not of bought the film in the beginning. I then spent the next three months (and a lot of time) trying to get WFD to address the issues. It was only after threating to take them to court did they finally reimburse me for the window and the labor to replace it, and the cost of the original film and installation. I had them remove the film from all windows as the warranty on the replacement window would be void once the film was reinstalled. Unfortunately the replacement window has a 39 week lead time to manufacture a replacement and still is not replaced.

Edgar was fantastic to work with! He was very proficient, made sure the tint came out perfect. He actually redid two windows because he didn’t like how it looked. He cleaned up after every room. Definitely will work with them again in the future!

We used Window Film Depot and had the pleasure of working directly on-site with Edgar who was fabulous. He wrapped our windows for our new business ahead of opening. Extremely professional, on-time, knowledgeable and his work was perfect. We will use him for all our decal and window wrapping needs moving forward. GREAT JOB!!
